The water in the pool is genuine thermal spring water, not heated mains water; after every departure the pool is drained, cleaned and refilled. Before breakfast, after dinner or at midnight — there is no need to leave the room to dim the lights and step into the water. The best sequence for a romantic thermal getaway is this: the muscles relax first in the thermal pool, and the massage that follows is far more effective. In our spa, therapists trained in the Far East offer Balinese massage, classic massage, anti-stress massage and aromatherapy. The options couples choose most often are Balinese massage and aromatherapy; both are slow-paced, deeply relaxing treatments. Massage is charged separately from the stay, and as session times change daily we recommend booking when you reserve or on arrival; if you would like two sessions at the same time, it is important to say so in advance. The traditional Turkish hammam, sauna and salt room are included in your stay; a quiet half hour in the salt room after the hammam can be the most peaceful part of the day.

The most practical advice we can offer for a romantic getaway concerns timing. Weekends and public holidays are when thermal hotels are busiest with families and groups. Midweek, particularly Tuesday to Thursday, the hotel is noticeably calm: empty tables in the restaurant, quiet corridors, and a spa team with more time to give you. If your work allows flexibility, or if your anniversary falls on a weekday, that quiet is worth as much as the holiday itself. Autumn and winter suit couples especially well; the colder it gets outside, the more the hot water in your room comes to mean.

Yoncalı is a few hours' drive from İstanbul, Ankara, Bursa and Eskişehir, and can be reached within the day from İzmir and Kocaeli. That means leaving on a Friday afternoon and arriving in time for dinner, then driving home comfortably after Sunday's midday check-out. Couples who want to venture a little further will find a calm, uncrowded afternoon at the ancient city of Aizanoi and its Temple of Zeus.
