Which Massage Is Right for You? The Efe Termal Therapy Guide
Anti-stress, aromatherapy, Bali, medical, scrub-and-foam… Choose the right massage for your needs at Efe Termal Spa in Yoncalı, Kütahya — and learn why a massage after thermal water works so much better.
Thermal Water First, Then Massage: Why the Order Matters
One of the questions we hear most often at our spa reception is this: “Should I take a dip in the pool before my massage, or after?” Our answer is almost always the same — thermal water first. The mineral-rich water of Yoncalı, reaching close to 40°C, warms the muscles from within; tissues soften and circulation quickens. And this is exactly where a massage on a warmed, relaxed body reaches far deeper. The tension a therapist would have to work out of a cold muscle has already begun to dissolve after the thermal pool. That is why, at Efe Termal, a massage is rarely a “treatment” — it is the natural continuation of the relaxation the water has already begun.
So Which One Is Right for You?
Our therapy menu has eight different treatments, and to be honest, there is no single “best” massage — only the one that suits you best on a given day. Some guests want to shed the fatigue of a long journey, others arrive with a specific ache, and some simply want to cleanse and refresh their skin. Below we have grouped the menu under three headings by purpose. At reception we still settle the pressure, duration and oil preference together in a short chat; these lines are only here to help clarify the question in your mind.
For Those Who Want to Relax and Clear the Mind
If your goal is simply to unwind, let go of stress and recover your sleep quality, three of our treatments are made for you. The Anti-Stress Massage works with slow, rhythmic strokes; it is never in a hurry, loosening the muscles step by step and calming the mind. In the Aromatherapy Massage we blend essential oils distilled from concentrated plant extracts into the work — lavender, citrus, or whichever combination we feel suits you that day. Here the point is not only the body but emotional balance; scent memory is half of relaxation. The Bali Massage is the signature of our spa: applied by therapists we bring specially from Bali, it begins at the feet and wraps the whole body, combining different pressures and manipulations to revive circulation while leaving a deep sense of renewal. After a long, tiring journey, Bali is what most guests choose.

For Pain, Tension and Stiffness
Some guests come not so much to relax as with a specific complaint: a shoulder that has been locked for months, the strain that desk work loads onto the lower back and neck, or muscle soreness after sport. For this we have three targeted treatments. The Medical Massage focuses on reducing pain caused by illness or low performance, improving circulation and keeping muscles and joints supple; here our therapist works less to soothe and more to release. The Local Massage is shorter and more precise — it concentrates on a single problem area of the body, a practical choice when your time is limited. The Head-Neck-Shoulder Massage, as the name suggests, is a special protocol for today’s most common complaints: headaches, insomnia, and stiffness in the back and neck. Anyone who spends long hours in front of a screen feels the difference the moment they rise.
For Those Who Want to Cleanse and Renew the Skin
A massage is not always about muscle; sometimes it is about returning to your skin. The Scrub & Foam (Kese & Köpük) is the heart of the centuries-old Turkish hammam tradition. The scrub draws the oil from the pores and clears the dead skin from the surface, after which a generous foam massage softens and refreshes the skin. This short ritual on the warm marble of the hammam becomes, for many guests, one of the most enjoyable moments of the holiday. It can be chosen on its own, but it is best savoured after a massage.
Balinese Technique Meets the Turkish Hammam: The Efe Termal Signature
What sets Efe Termal Spa apart is that we bring two deep-rooted traditions under one roof. On one side, the soft yet penetrating touch of therapists trained for years in the spa centres of Bali, Indonesia and the Far East; on the other, the cleansing warmth of the thousands-of-years-old Turkish hammam ritual. Most of our guests choose our combination packages to experience both at once — a session completed with scrub-and-foam after a Bali or Classic massage, for instance, truly resets the body. Whichever you choose, we welcome you with a warm tea in the relaxation room before the session, and restore your energy afterwards with herbal tea and nuts. Because a good massage does not begin on the table; it begins with the welcome.
Should I use the thermal pool before or after my massage?
We usually recommend the thermal pool first. The warm mineral water heats and loosens the muscles from within, so the massage that follows is far more effective and relaxing. After the session, a gentle rest is ideal.
It is my first massage — which one should I choose?
For first-timers, the slow and rhythmic Anti-Stress Massage or the Classic Massage is a good start. If you have no specific pain, we suggest beginning with these relaxation-focused treatments and adjusting the pressure together with your therapist.
I have neck and back pain — which one helps?
For neck, back and shoulder stiffness caused by desk work, the Head-Neck-Shoulder Massage or the area-focused Medical Massage is suitable. Just tell our therapist about your complaint at the start of the session and we tailor the protocol accordingly.
What is the Bali Massage, and how does it differ from a classic one?
The Bali Massage is a Far Eastern massage applied by the expert therapists we bring from Bali; it begins at the feet, wraps the whole body and combines different techniques. Compared with a classic massage it is more flowing, reviving circulation and giving a deeper sense of renewal.
